The probability of high school graduates going abroad to study in university is increasing. What if you plan to study abroad but haven’t had time to prepare? The 2+2 transfer program is definitely one of the choices for parents and students. However, each community college partners with different universities in the U.S., and you may find it overwhelming!

Compared to attending a regular university, community colleges actually have many advantages, and the preparation is easier. Let’s follow along and learn more!

    |What is a Community College?

Unlike Taiwan’s community colleges, U.S. community colleges (two-year programs) have transfer agreements with many renowned four-year universities. The purpose is to provide students with the opportunity to earn basic required credits during their first two years at community college. If students meet the academic requirements, including credits and grades, they are guaranteed transfer to a university to complete their last two years of specialized credits and earn a bachelor’s degree.

    |Advantages of Attending a Community College

    • Lower Costs: Community colleges have tuition fees that are about 60-70% cheaper than four-year universities.
    • Lower Admission Requirements: Only TOEFL English test scores are required, and SAT/ACT scores are not necessary. (Some schools do not require TOEFL scores.)
    • Higher University Admission Rates: Community college graduates face less competition than general high school graduates when applying to four-year universities. After earning an associate degree, students are guaranteed transfer to a four-year university.
