Before studying abroad, there is always a mountain of paperwork and exams to prepare for. For working professionals, it can be even more challenging to find time to prepare amidst a busy work schedule, or they may face the pressure of poor English exam results or the risk of not having a high enough GPA. Therefore, conditional admission/PATHWAY programs are the best choice! Many schools in countries like the UK, the US, Canada, and Australia offer conditional admission/PATHWAY programs (referred to as Pre-sessional courses in the UK).
Not only can you apply to schools before obtaining your English test results, but if your university GPA is too low and not ideal, many schools offer remedial courses to make up for a low GPA and provide a chance to apply to better universities.
● What is Conditional Admission/PATHWAY?
PATHWAY courses are bridging programs that students can take before starting their formal courses, once they have the basic level of English proficiency and have received an offer of admission from the school.
The PATHWAY course content includes both everyday communication and academic English, allowing students to familiarize themselves with the teaching methods and report writing styles before entering university or graduate school. When the PATHWAY course is about to finish, there is usually an assessment or grade evaluation. In addition to meeting the course standards, some schools may have additional admission requirements, such as formal English exam results, depending on the school’s requirements.
Once you have passed all the challenges, you can officially enter the school just like students who apply through traditional methods! This is why more and more students who fail to meet the GPA threshold or who do not have enough time to improve their English test scores choose to pursue the PATHWAY programs as a route to enter their ideal schools.
