School Introduction

The University of Wollongong (UOW) is a well-known comprehensive university located in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Wollongong is situated on the south coast of New South Wales, about 80 kilometers south of Sydney. The city is the main urban center of the Illawarra region and was one of the host cities for the 2000 Olympic Games. It is also the ninth largest city in Australia, with over 400,000 residents. UOW is one of the most picturesque campuses in Australia, located near scenic national parks. The university collaborates with local government to provide free bus services between the campus and the main student residential areas, making transportation highly convenient.

UOW is a comprehensive university with a focus on education, engineering, technology, business, and natural sciences. The university is highly ranked in Australia in the fields of information technology, computer science, and engineering. UOW is also home to Australia's largest ICT (Information and Communications Technology) research center and one of the largest information technology and telecommunications research institutions in the Southern Hemisphere. In 1993, UOW established a branch campus in Dubai, initially called the Australian Studies Institute (IAS), which was the first foreign university in the UAE and the first Australian university in the Persian Gulf region.

The university has five faculties: the Faculty of Business, the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences, the Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science, Medicine, and Health. The Faculty of Engineering at UOW is a member of the prestigious Group of Eight, representing the highest standards in Australian engineering education and research.
