    Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, located in the southern part of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on Boelelaan, is the only Protestant university in the Netherlands. The term "Vrije" (free) in the university's name signifies its independence from state or church interference, with God's word as the ultimate authority. Originally located in central Amsterdam, the university moved to its current location in 1973 due to the growing number of students. The university campus and its affiliated hospital are located in the southwestern part of Amsterdam, one of the most vibrant and rapidly developing commercial areas of the city. The university is just 10 kilometers from Schiphol International Airport, with an 8-minute train ride to the airport. Bachelor's degree courses are generally taught in Dutch, although some programs are offered in English. Master's programs are primarily offered in English. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam offers 12 departments, including Humanities, Earth and Life Sciences, Medicine, Computer Science and Engineering, Population Migration Studies, Economics and Business Administration, Law, Philosophy, Education and Psychology, and Social and Cultural Studies. The university offers over 50 undergraduate programs and around 100 graduate courses. Its Faculty of Law is well-known for its historical reputation in law and sociology, maintaining close relationships with international legal organizations in the Netherlands.
