School Introduction

Lancaster University, officially known as the University of Lancaster, is a world-class research university located in Lancaster, England, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and just a 40-minute drive from the Lake District National Park.

In the 2021 Complete University Guide, Lancaster University ranked 8th in the UK, 10th in The Guardian rankings, and in the top 135 globally according to the QS World University Rankings. The university consistently ranks in the top ten for student satisfaction and has earned the TEF Gold rating for teaching excellence. In 2018, it was ranked third in the "Best 20 University Campuses" award.

Founded in 1964, Lancaster University is home to the prestigious Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), consistently ranked in the UK top 10 and the world’s top 100. LUMS is one of the few business schools worldwide to hold the "triple accreditation" (AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS, SBC), with less than 50 business schools globally achieving this distinction. In addition to LUMS, Lancaster's Environmental Science and Physics departments lead international research in low-temperature physics, and its Sociology department is renowned for both teaching and research.

The university also boasts highly regarded programs in Arts, Drama, and Linguistics. In the 2012 Complete University Guide, Lancaster's Linguistics program was ranked number one in the UK, and its Arts and Design departments offer specialized faculty and dedicated studios for each student.

Lancaster University is part of the N8 Research Partnership, alongside Durham University, Leeds University, Liverpool University, Manchester University, Newcastle University, Sheffield University, and York University. The university follows a collegiate system with four independent colleges and nine non-independent colleges, where the colleges focus on research and teaching, while the non-independent colleges manage student accommodations, welfare, and living arrangements.
