    The University of Manchester, often referred to as "Manchester," is one of the eight most prestigious universities in the UK, ranked among the top 50 universities in the world. It is a member of the Russell Group of leading research universities in the UK and a founding member of the UK’s "Ivy League" known as the Red Brick Universities. Established in 1824, it is located in Manchester, the UK’s second-largest city, and is the largest single-site university in the country.

    The university offers a wide range of academic programs and is home to nearly 40,000 students from 154 countries, studying over 400 degree programs. With over 10,000 staff members, many of whom are internationally renowned scientists, Manchester is a global leader in research and education.

    The university is organized into 8 faculties: Manchester School of Art, Health, Psychology and Social Care, Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences, Science and Engineering, Business & Law, MMU Cheshire, Education, and Hollings. The university is particularly renowned for its programs in Architecture, Engineering, and Sports Science, with its Art & Design and Hospitality & Tourism Management programs ranked among the best in the UK.

    Notable alumni include 25 Nobel Prize winners, such as Alan Turing, the founder of computer science and artificial intelligence, after whom the Turing Award is named. Other distinguished alumni include J. J. Thomson (Nobel Laureate in Physics, 1906, for the discovery of the electron), Ernest Rutherford (Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, 1908, for his work in atomic disintegration and radioactivity), and James Chadwick (Nobel Laureate in Physics, 1935, for the discovery of the neutron).
