    School Introduction

The University of California, Davis (UC Davis or Davis) is a public research university located in Davis, California, just west of Sacramento. It is one of the ten campuses of the University of California system and is the third largest in student population, following UC Berkeley and UCLA. Davis is considered one of America's true "college towns," with the city largely built around the university. While Davis has a population of 60,000, the student population constitutes a significant portion of the town. The main campus, dormitories, and downtown are separated by only one street, which contributes to Davis being known as a "college town." In addition, Davis is just a 10-minute drive from Sacramento, combining both quiet and lively elements.

UC Davis offers a broad range of academic programs and is composed of 4 undergraduate colleges, 1 graduate school, and 6 professional schools. Notable schools include the Graduate School of Management, the School of Law, the School of Medicine, the College of Engineering, the School of Veterinary Medicine, the School of Education, and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine is the largest in the U.S. and has been ranked number one for two consecutive years.

UC Davis Aggies compete in NCAA Division I and are members of the Big West Conference and the Big Sky Conference. The university's mascot is the wild horse, Gunrock. Notable alumni include Wayne Rosing, former Vice President of Google; Alfred Chuang, founder of BEA Systems; and Hong Kong actress, Charmaine Sheh.
