The campus's iconic building is the Geisel Library, known for its unique design. Notable research institutes include the School of Medicine and the Jacobs School of Engineering. The university's athletic teams, known as the Tritons, are named after "sons of the sea god" and compete at the NCAA Division II level as part of the University of California Athletic Association. Although it does not have a football team, UC San Diego is renowned for its surfing team, which has won six national championships and is regarded as one of the best in the U.S. The university's most important tradition is the Sun God Festival, which began in 1980 and is an annual music festival. UC San Diego is also home to the International House, where students from over 30 countries live and study together. Notable alumni include Bill Atkinson and Bud Tribble, members of the Apple Macintosh development team, GoPro founder Nick Woodman, animator Mike Judge, and several Nobel and Fields Medal laureates.
