The Australian National University (ANU) is a research-based national university located in Canberra, Australia. It is the only national public university in Australia and the first research university in the country. ANU is a member of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), the Group of Eight (Go8), and the Australian Universities Research Alliance (AURA).The university has the largest library system in the Southern Hemisphere, the most advanced supercomputers in the Southern Hemisphere, and the world-renowned Siding Spring Observatory. Additionally, four national research institutions are located on the ANU campus: the Australian Academy of Science (AAS), the Australian Academy of Humanities (AAH), the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA), and the Australian Academy of Law (AAL).The main campus is located in the Acton community in Canberra, covering approximately 150 hectares and housing over two hundred buildings. It is near Black Mountain, Lake Burley Griffin, and the city center of Canberra. ANU is organized into seven colleges: the College of Arts and Social Sciences, the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the College of Business and Economics, the College of Asia and the Pacific, the College of Health and Medicine, the College of Science, and the College of Law.ANU is ranked first in Oceania and consistently remains among the top fifty universities worldwide. Its academic fields are world-class, with political science, international relations, humanities and social sciences, computer science, and natural sciences being particularly outstanding. In the 2020 QS World University Rankings, ANU was ranked 31st.
