The University of Western Australia (UWA) is located in Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. It is the first university in the state and is recognized as one of the six Sandstone Universities in Australia due to its distinctive sandstone buildings and magnificent botanical gardens. UWA is also a member of the Group of Eight (Go8), Australia's leading universities. It has made significant contributions to the development of Western Australia and the nation across various fields.The university has three campuses. The main Crawley campus is situated along the Swan River, near the oldest park in Western Australia, Kings Park, and is just a ten-minute drive from the shopping and commercial areas of Perth. The Claremont campus is located to the west of the main campus, and the Albany campus is in the town of Albany on the southern coast, serving as a regional hub for the university.In the 2020 QS World University Rankings, UWA was ranked 86th. In the QS World University subject rankings, UWA ranked 3rd globally in Mining Engineering, 29th in Marine Science, and 30th in Civil and Structural Engineering. Additionally, its programs in Chemical Engineering, Accounting and Finance, Biological Sciences, Medicine, Electrical Engineering, and Law are all ranked within the top 100 globally.UWA is known for its strong emphasis on research, with the goal of fostering scientific research capabilities. It is one of the major research universities in Western Australia, ranking second in research output in the country. The university has strong research capabilities in areas such as petroleum and natural gas exploration and development, agricultural and natural ecosystem management, health and biomedical sciences, humanities and social sciences, and communication and computer science.
