    School Introduction

    The Georgia Institute of Technology, commonly known as Georgia Tech, Tech, or GT, is a public research university located in Atlanta, Georgia. It is a member of the University System of Georgia (USG) and was founded in 1885. Originally offering only degrees in mechanical engineering, Georgia Tech has evolved into a major institution with six colleges and 31 departments, known for its focus on science, technology, engineering, computing, business, and humanities.

    Georgia Tech includes several distinguished schools such as the College of Engineering and the Scheller College of Business. The university has four main campuses: West Campus, East Campus, Central Campus, and Technology Square. Additionally, Georgia Tech has campuses in Savannah, France, Ireland, Shanghai, and Singapore.

    Located in the northern part of downtown Atlanta, Georgia Tech’s campus is surrounded by convenient transportation and high-rise buildings. The campus is also near the headquarters of many global corporations, including AT&T, Coca-Cola, and Bank of America. Students from the Scheller College of Business have many opportunities for summer internships with major companies like UPS, Federal Express, NCR, and AT&T, and the university claims to guarantee internships for 90% of its students.

    Georgia Tech’s sports teams are known as the Yellow Jackets, competing in NCAA Division I. Their biggest rival is the University of Georgia, particularly in football. Notable alumni include Mike Duke, former CEO of Walmart; Gil Amelio, former CEO of Apple; John F. Brock, CEO of Coca-Cola; and Cecil B. Day, founder of Days Inn.
