The University of Southampton, also known as Soton, is a renowned research university located in the port city of Southampton, on the southern coast of England. The university is situated in the coastal city of Southampton, about one hour by train from London, and offers the option of taking ferries to visit other European countries. The University of Southampton has six campuses spread around the city, with the main campus, Highfield Campus, located in the Highfield area of Southampton. Most students attend classes at this campus. This group provides the benefits of economies of scale and resource sharing, as well as fostering collaborative research to generate new ideas. SES-5 is one of the most powerful alliances and groups in the UK and among the leading centers for scientific and engineering research globally.
