The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a world-renowned research university located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is a member of the U15 Group of Canadian Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Pacific Rim Universities, and Universitas 21. It is considered one of the "Big Three" universities in Canada alongside McGill University and the University of Toronto.
The largest campus of UBC is located in suburban Vancouver, just a 30-minute drive from the city center, with over 45,000 students. The university is often referred to as the "pearl of the West Coast" and is known for having one of the most beautiful campuses in North America, featuring historic garden buildings and a classical Japanese garden. UBC also boasts Canada's second-largest library system, with over 5.4 million books, thousands of maps, and e-books, and it holds the largest collection of Asian language materials in the country.
In the 2020 QS World University Rankings, UBC was ranked 51st globally. The university is also home to Canada's national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics, TRIUMF, which houses the world's largest cyclotron.
