The university was originally known as the College of New Jersey and is the fourth oldest institution of higher education in the United States. The College of New Jersey was initially established in Elizabeth, but after two relocations, it officially became Princeton University in 1896. Princeton offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and more. The university works closely with the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton Theological Seminary, Westminster Choir College, and Rider University. Princeton is also one of the universities in the United States that receives the most donations. The university’s official colors are orange and black, with the athletic teams known as the Tigers and the mascot being a tiger. Princeton places great emphasis on writing and logical reasoning skills, and as such, all undergraduate students are required to write a thesis in their senior year, which is a hallmark of its academic curriculum. Notable alumni include U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, John Forbes Nash, and First Lady Michelle Obama.
