    University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (abbreviated as UNC) is a world-renowned research university, and one of the earliest public universities in American history. Located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, a college town with a population of about 60,000, it is just 40 minutes by car from Raleigh, a city with a population of nearly 500,000. It is also just a 2-hour drive from Charlotte, the largest city in North Carolina. UNC offers 74 bachelor's, 104 master's, and 65 doctoral programs. Among its graduate schools, the Medical School, Law School, School of Public Health, School of Pharmacy, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, School of Information and Library Science, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing, School of Education, School of Government, and Business School are highly regarded. Notably, the Kenan-Flagler Business School's MBA program ranks 20th in the U.S., with over 100 years of history. The campus is divided into three areas: the North Campus, Central Campus, and South Campus. The North Campus is made up of Polk Place and McCorkle Place, where most classrooms and freshman dorms are located. The Law School, Political Science, Student Activity Center, Gymnasium, and Sports Stadium are located on the Central Campus, while the Medical School, UNC Hospitals, and Business School are on the South Campus. UNC has a rich sports history, particularly with its men's basketball team. Michael Jordan, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, is an alumnus of UNC Chapel Hill.
