    University of Texas, Austin (UT Austin) is a public research university located in Austin, Texas. Founded in 1883, it is the flagship institution of the University of Texas System and is considered one of the prestigious "Public Ivies" in the United States. The university is situated in the heart of Austin, with around 40,000 undergraduate students, over 11,000 graduate students, and more than 6,000 international students. The University of Texas, Austin is ranked 48th in the nation by U.S. News in 2020. Among its many recognized programs, the College of Education and College of Engineering are ranked 10th, the School of Information Science is ranked 9th, and the Department of Earth Sciences is ranked 8th in the U.S. The university is famous for its iconic UT Tower, a Victoria Gothic-style bell tower completed in 1937. The tower chimes a different melody every fifteen minutes and is heard throughout the campus. At night, the tower is typically lit with white light, but sometimes the color changes to signify special events. For example, when the university wins a game, the top of the tower is lit orange. When winning a national championship, in addition to the orange light, the windows of the tower office form a "1" visible from all four sides, a very unique sight. The University of Texas, Austin is also known for its outstanding athletic programs and was named "America's Best Sports University" by Sports Illustrated in 2002. Its football team won the Rose Bowl and national championship in 2006. The Texas A&M University is one of their main rivals in history. Notable alumni include Michael Dell, founder of Dell Inc., actors Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger, MLB pitcher Roger Clemens, as well as 11 Nobel Prize winners, 1 Fields Medalist, and 2 Turing Award winners, among many others.
