University of Maryland – Baltimore County (UMBC) was founded in 1966 and is a public research university located in Catonsville, Baltimore County, Maryland, USA. The campus is just 15 minutes from downtown Baltimore, 45 minutes from Washington, D.C. and the third-largest city in Maryland, Frederick, and only 5 minutes from Baltimore-Washington International Airport. UMBC is part of the University System of Maryland and is one of the three main universities in the system (along with College Park and Baltimore). The campus is conveniently located near the Baltimore Light Rail station. The university has over 13,000 students, with more than 2,500 graduate students and 3% international students. UMBC was ranked 166th in the US News 2020 rankings. The university comprises the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Business, and the School of Law, with over ten specialized research and teaching centers. UMBC is well-known for its programs in natural sciences and engineering, particularly in computer science, visual arts, mathematics and statistics, and the Master’s in Intercultural Communication. The campus is close to the famous Inner Harbor, with numerous shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues nearby. Among UMBC’s alumni are 3 Nobel laureates, 7 Pulitzer Prize winners, 40 members of the National Academy of Sciences, and dozens of Fulbright Scholars.
