School Introduction

Hofstra University, established in 1935, is a leading national university and a private research-based higher education institution. Initially, it was a branch of New York University. Located in Hempstead, New York, just 11 kilometers east of New York City, the university benefits from the academic and social resources of the New York metropolitan area. Hofstra University was ranked 162nd nationally in the 2020 U.S. News rankings.

The university offers more than 140 undergraduate majors, 150 graduate programs, and over 100 dual-degree programs. Its School of Communication is well-equipped and renowned for hosting multiple U.S. presidential debate events. Academically, Hofstra University excels in liberal arts and arts-related fields, with particular strengths in fine arts and theater arts, as well as in business, finance, and medical programs, which are popular due to high employment rates.

In terms of facilities, the university has a total of 113 buildings, including 18 dining halls, 6 theaters, and 35 student residence halls accommodating 3,600 students. The 240-acre campus is divided into south and north sections. The south campus is primarily for academic functions, with administrative buildings, classrooms, and libraries. The north campus serves as the residential area, featuring dormitories, parking lots, sports fields, swimming pools, fitness centers, yoga rooms, aerobics studios, indoor tracks, and six basketball courts, offering extensive resources.

Notable alumni include acclaimed director, screenwriter, and producer Francis Ford Coppola, actor David Paterson, and entrepreneur Frank G. Zarb.
