School Introduction

Illinois State University (ISU) is a renowned four-year university located in Bloomington-Normal, a twin city in Illinois, Midwest USA, with a population of about 130,000. The university is approximately three hours’ drive from both Chicago and St. Louis.

ISU is the first public university in Illinois. Recognized for its academic excellence, affordability, and high-quality research, it has been ranked among the top 100 public colleges in the U.S. by *U.S. News & World Report*. The university comprises six colleges: the College of Applied Science and Technology, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Fine Arts, and Mennonite College of Nursing.

Notable master’s programs include accounting, MBA, economics, nursing, information systems, sports management, actuarial science, applied statistics, biological sciences, chemistry, political science, psychology, business analytics, mass communication, arts, and music. ISU’s Milner Library houses 1.5 million volumes, and through an interlibrary loan system, students can borrow books from all public universities in Illinois as well as some private institutions.

ISU has approximately 20,000 students, with over 18,000 undergraduates and 2,000 graduate students, including around 500 international students. Over one-third of classes have fewer than 20 students, ensuring high-quality teaching, even when public universities often have classes exceeding 200 students.
