    The Illinois Institute of Technology, established in 1890, is a private, technology-focused research university located in Chicago, Illinois. It is commonly referred to as IIT. The university consists of 15 schools and colleges: the Armour College of Engineering, the Chicago-Kent College of Law, the College of Architecture, the College of Science, the College of Design, the Institute of Food Safety and Health, the Lewis College of Human Sciences, the Pritzker College of Biomedical Engineering, the Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research (WISER), the College of Applied Technology, and the Stuart School of Business Science and Engineering. IIT offers a wide range of engineering degree programs, including biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, and aerospace engineering, as well as various architecture and science degrees. The university has a total student population of over 7,700. The student-to-faculty ratio at Illinois Tech is 13:1, with an acceptance rate of 53%. The university's Institute of Food Safety and Health is a globally renowned food science research institute. IIT's interdisciplinary project program began in 1995 and features teams of students using design-centered methods and innovative thinking to develop solutions for real-world problems. Illinois Tech offers specialized degree programs that allow students to take graduate courses within a three-year undergraduate program, earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in just five years. Notable alumni include Jack Steinberger (1988 Nobel Prize in Physics), Munir Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
