Founded in 1967
The University of Stirling, located in the city of Stirling, Scotland, was founded in 1967 and is built around the historic Airthrey Castle. It is one of the "plate glass" universities founded in the 1960s in the UK. The university is known for its low population density, multifunctionality, and modern campus that blends harmoniously with its surroundings. The main campus is about 2 kilometers from Stirling city center and is actually closer to the town of Bridge of Allan.
Stirling's campus is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. In 2002, the university and its Airthrey village landscape were listed as one of the top 20 20th-century sites in the UK by the International Council on Monuments and Sites. Although Stirling University is relatively small, it is one of the most modern universities in Scotland and one of the most creative, having introduced a 15-week semester system with a short summer term running from late June to mid-August.
The university's teaching and research have received very high ratings. The university has four colleges: the College of Arts, the College of Humanities, the College of Management, and the College of Natural Sciences, offering a variety of engaging and unique courses. The university excels in departments such as Film and Media, Psychology, Aquatic Sciences, History, and Politics.
