The University of Georgia (UGA), founded in 1785, is one of the oldest public research universities in the United States. Its main campus is located in Athens, Georgia, and it has another campus in Atlanta. The university is home to a number of historic buildings with distinctive Southern architecture, most of which are located on the North and South campuses. In addition to these historic buildings, the University of Georgia has expanded its facilities, including student activity centers, learning centers, the University of Georgia Art Museum, performance halls, and new student dormitories. The university currently has 34,180 undergraduate students and over 9,000 graduate students. In the 2020 U.S. News rankings, it was ranked 50th in the country. UGA offers 79 degree programs, with its College of Journalism and College of Public Administration ranked among the top five in the U.S. Other notable departments include the College of International Relations, ranked 4th nationally, the College of Veterinary Medicine, which has been consistently ranked in the top 10, the Terry College of Business, ranked 21st, and its MBA program, ranked 40th. The university is also known for its strong programs in real estate, accounting, and law, with its College of Insurance ranked first in the nation. UGA is a member of NCAA Division I and has strong athletics teams, especially in football, baseball, and women's gymnastics, the latter of which has won numerous national championships. The university is also home to the Sanford Stadium, the 5th largest football stadium in the U.S., and the Stegeman Indoor Arena, both of which were used as venues during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Notable alumni include basketball player Willie Anderson, actress Kim Basinger, and television personality and host Ryan Seacrest.
