The University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston) was founded in 1964. It is one of the five campuses of the University of Massachusetts system and is a public research university located at Columbia Point in Boston, near downtown Boston.
UMass Boston has an ideal location with convenient transportation. It is close to Boston's oldest Red Line subway station. The total student population is approximately 14,500, with 6% international students. UMass Boston offers 106 undergraduate programs, 42 master's programs, and 31 doctoral programs. The university has six colleges: the College of Humanities, the College of Management, the College of Science, the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the College of Public Service, and the College of Continuing Education. The most well-known is the College of Management, which was ranked by Bloomberg as one of the best business schools and is accredited by AACSB. Popular programs include the MBA, Information Management, Life Sciences, and Business-related fields.
Notable alumni include former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, the father of green chemistry John Warner, Pulitzer Prize winner Lloyd Schwartz, and Taiwanese actor and model Benjie.
