Founded in 1908
The University of Alberta, located in Edmonton, the capital of Alberta Province, is a comprehensive research university and a founding member of the U15 group of Canadian research universities. It is also a member of the World University Network and the World Energy University Network. The university has five campuses: the main campus (North Campus), the Saint-Jean Campus, the Augustana Campus, the Enterprise Square Campus, and the South Campus. The main campus is located on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River in downtown Edmonton, the original site of the university.
Edmonton is the second-largest city in Alberta, with a population of about one million people. It serves as the cultural, political, and educational center of Alberta. The university has 21 major faculties. The Alberta School of Business, founded in 1961, is one of the largest business schools in Canada, offering a wide range of master's programs, including MBA, Finance, Accounting, and Human Resources. The Faculty of Law is the oldest in Western Canada and hosts interdisciplinary research institutes in constitutional law, health law, science policy, and legal reform.
The university is home to one of the largest nursing schools in Canada and was the first in the country to offer fully funded doctoral programs. In the 2020 QS World University Rankings, the University of Alberta ranked 113th globally and 4th in Canada.
