    School Introduction

    The University of Saskatchewan is a comprehensive university located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in central Canada. It is the largest institution of higher education in the province and a member of the U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities. The university has produced two Nobel Prize laureates. Saskatchewan is known for its agricultural industry, with a low cost of living and beautiful landscapes, including over 100,000 lakes, making it a popular tourist destination.

    Saskatoon, with a population of around 200,000, is a clean, safe, and friendly city, regarded as one of the best places to live in Canada. The University of Saskatchewan excels in several disciplines, ranking fourth globally in biotechnology and scientific research. Its science programs are ranked in the top ten in Canada, and its computer science program is ranked number one in the country.

    The university currently has 18 faculties, including Agriculture, Arts and Science, Dentistry, Education, Business, Engineering, Environment and Sustainability, Graduate and Postgraduate Studies, Kinesiology, Law, Library and Information Science, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Nutrition, Rehabilitation Sciences, Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, and Public Policy. The university's Department of Physics is renowned; the first electron synchrotron in Canada was built there in 1948. In 1951, the world’s first non-commercial cobalt-60 therapy machine was also developed at the university. In 2003, the university completed the construction of the Canadian Light Source Synchrotron, a $173 million facility, which is now a prime example of its scientific research capabilities. The synchrotron, about the size of a football field, is Canada's first facility designed to accelerate electrons to near light speed and ranks fourth in the world in functionality.
